Spencer Robson - Lands End to John O'Groats Cycle

by Gill Williams - 21:24 on 18 June 2016

Left Congleton this morning without breakfast as the service didn't start until 8.00am. Had a banana and a couple of shortbread and away I went. Graham (friend who got me fit and advised on nutrition) just don't read the next couple of lines. After about 10 hard miles I felt really tired and my legs started screaming at me progress became very slow and I actually checked my bike over thinking there was something wrong with it. I had I fact "Bonked" or run out of food reserves in my body. Not a nice feeling, very weird. Luckily for me I came across a garage and shop and stocked up with carb fuel. Lesson learnt. You can read from now on Graham. It's difficult to eat when your not hungry but I have to force food or fuel into my body all the time just to keep going/ A lot of today was cycling through towns and city's so there was traffic everywhere. Some bloke shouted some abuse at me as he was passing, not sure why, maybe he got a wiff of my trainers through his AC as he was waiting behind me at the lights. I gave him the Geordie salute non the less and he went on his way. I can honestly say my trainers now smell worse than Scotty's aftershave (just kidding Scotty and no you can't have your donation back) Have also started arguing with my sat nav as I ended up in the middle of a golf course today for some reason. Usually do a couple of extra miles per day for a laugh. Anyway I'm in Preston now looking forward to Shap hill tomorrow.😩

I'm not saying a word 😡
Had a good laugh over FT with Spencer, me Amy, Gill, Ian and Rhum dog, I let them do the preaching!

Have a great day tomorrow, fuel up for that hill and just think the next day is a shorter cycle.
Keep pedalling x

Well done Spencer...cant believe tomorrow you will have been riding a week..if I was wearing a hat I'd take it off to you!
Did Gail tell you I suggested a sponsored cut throat razor shave off of your beard in the village hall or Portree as an extra fundraiser - ha ha!!
Keep up the pedalling, you're doing brilliantly and we are dead proud of you :)
